The loft is looking great with all the help I'm getting from daughter, Jeanette, her husband, Tom, and especially, Linda Germain, who has been climbing a tall ladder every other day for a week!

I've gotten some confirmations for my classes, but have to have at least 4 students to run them, so let me know if you need more information to join us!

CARDS & BOXES - NOV. 8   -  1 TO 4 PM

WORKSHOPS - FALL 2014

WORKSHOPS WITH SANDRA GOLBERT in her Haverhill studio

CARDS AND BOXES - one-day class 8 students maximum

Give Hallmark some heavy competition with this card and gift box workshop! You can learn to make unique cards for every occasion, pop-ups, folded book cards and collage cards, as well as one-of-a-kind boxes for small gifts. Very simple to do using unusual papers, tape, stamps, punches, scissors and some glue (not to mention a great imagination!)

$35.00 pp Materials fee: $8.00

HAND-MADE PAPER - two day class 5 students maximum

Learn how to 'pull' sheets of paper as well as how to cast paper. This exciting workshop will unlock the magic that is paper-making! Be sure to bring an apron, preferably water-proof, and some pressed and dried flowers, leaves and grasses.

$70.00 pp Materials fee: $20.00        OCT. 18 & 19  -   1 TO 4 PM

BOOK IN A BOX - three day class 8 students maximum

In this class, we will create a wonderful book and its accompanying box. The accordion book may be any theme you wish, family, flowers, pets, poetry, and anything else your heart desires. It can celebrate a certain person and maybe be used as a gift for them. Bring anything you can find, pictures from magazines, text, old letters (bring photocopies, not originals) that will make your book special. Or….. no theme at all, just miscellaneous goodies we find. I will have hundreds of fun things to add to your book.

We will be collaging the box the first day, and making the book the next two days, so you will have time to find ideas (and 'stuff'!) of your own to include.

$55.00 pp Materials fee: $15.00        SEPT. 27,  OCT. 4 & OCT. 11  -  1 TO 3:30

SILK-PAINTING - two day class 6 students maximum

Learn to paint on silk with cold water dyes that can be 'set' with just an iron. Working with water-soluble resist, silk fabric and beautiful dyes, we'll create colorful works of art. On the first day, we will practice with using resist and make a 'sampler' with all the methods of using the dyes. Then we will work on a design for the scarf you will be creating the following class.

You will take home a scarf of your own design as well as the wooden stretchers so you may continue to work at this great art!

$55.00 pp Materials fee: $25.00       SEPT. 20 & 21  -  1 TO 4 PM.

Workshops may be cancelled if there are too few applications.

MY BOOK, "BAD AS GOLD" IS OUT ON KINDLE!

This is so exciting for me. Little did I know that when Linda Germain suggested I join a group called NaNoWriMo to 'do some writing', that I would end up with an actual book.
Now I want to write another!

You will need to bring three sable brushes (the best you can find)  numbers 2, & 4. All other materials will be provided.

Book in a Box - A Memory Book

May 8 - May 29
7 pm - 9 pm
High School
Contact: vhendrickson@newburyport.k12.ma.us

First, and most importantly, let me know what theme you want to use: family, pets, flowers, children, boxing (?), heritage, women, your spouse, spring, no particular theme or anything else you’d like, so I can bring the proper papers and images. Think of images you can bring, like photos, or magazine pictures, etc..

Make copies of old letters, photos, etc. Don't bring originals unless you want to use them 'up' or I can make copies at home of anything you need. You can also bring ribbons, memorabilia or flat items you’d like to use on the pages.

Please feel free to email me to ask me any questions or information you need before we start the workshop (after you apply) . Remember to bring some small sharp scissors if you have them. I can provide a couple if you don’t, but I don’t have enough for the entire class.

To save time, please cut out the pertinent images so you don’t have to go through the magazines during the class.

1st Day - We’ll be collage-ing the box today and planning the contents of the book.
Bring any kind of text or papers we can use to decorate the box itself.
Save special things for the book. We’ll talk about anything you need for the book itself.
If time permits, we will begin the making of the accordion book.

2nd to 4th Days: - The exciting work will begin, the making and embellishing the book
book book until we have a finished work of art, an Artist’s Book.

More workshops soon!

My Mystery Novel is Almost Finished!!

Last year, I took part in a great program called NaNoWriMo, which is National November Writing Month. Tons of budding writers (read: me) took part and basically what we had to do was write 50,000 words in Nov..

Sound easy? NO! I had begun this book years ago, so I cheated, since I already had about 18,000 words, but I still had to struggle really hard to finish the 50, 218 words by Nov. 30.

Now is the hard part.....editing.... to make an already too long blog short, I have several 'readers' doing me the favor of pre-editing and now I'm sending it out to an editor.
Then, when all the re-writing, editing, changing, sweating, crying, tearing-out-of-hair is done, it will go to be published as an e-book on Kindle and Nook. Hopefully by April 15.

If you don't have either, Kindle, and maybe Nook books (have to research this) can be downloaded to your desktop, iPad, whatever, and you all can read my book! Aren't you lucky?

It is a murder mystery set in a New York City Hotel during Fashion Expo, where companies take booths to show off their lines of dresses. The main protagonist, Lindy Price, is the Assistant Security Manager of the hotel. She is funny, pleasantly plump and sassy.

She has several encounters with Reilly, the NYC detective in charge of the investigation, and the rest is for you to read about! (And yes, nowadays, you CAN use a preposition to end a sentence with, but we'll see how a proper-to-the-core literary editor feels about that!)

So, bottom line, stay in touch and I will send out a call to all of you to help me get a Pulitzer....right, and if you believe that, there's this long bridge in NY I'm selling.

Monday, January 27, 2014

The top piece is called  "Indira" - very Indian colors.

The second is "Letters to Artists" and behind each silk 'envelope' is a message printed on wood. This piece was accepted into a Textile Study Group of NY show that open in NYC and is now traveling all over the country for 3 years.

Both of the above are 9"x9"x3".

The last is "Cure". It is 44"x21"x2". Made of all kinds of fibers, cotton, perle, raffia, wool, whatever I could find!

This next one is "Plum Island" (also 9"x9"x3") because the driftwood was found on the  beach there.

She's Baaaack! New Work.

Yes, it's been a long time, but I've been super busy. Since I wrote last, I've had hand surgery (the 4th) for trigger finger (thumb). It went very well and I'm painless again.
Here are some new things I've done.
