The work is over, the show was installed and the exhibit finally happened!

There was doubt in my mind whether the kind of work I do would be accepted by the Marblehead Arts' usual attendees. In my mind, Marblehead has always been the quintisential New England town, where I imagine the decor to be traditionally Early American. It follows then, that the accepted choice of artwork would be nautical, landscape or still life, not whispy silk hangings or embroidered pieces.

However, to my surprise, everyone was very complimentary and literally gushed about the show. I was very pleased with my installation, and I think the look of the gallery had a lot to do with the reaction of the people. It wasn't at all what usual art exhibits look like in Marblehead! There was a torso, some vessels, and a table filled with more than a hundred small matchboxes, covered in art paper, and which had artists' sayings in them....these are not in the video due to the popularity of the boxes! People loved them and loved the idea of taking something home with them.

So, take a look at the video (8 minutes) and let me know what you think!

Marblehead Art Association Solo Exhibit

All the work is done for the show and only the installation remains! Hurray!

The opening is Nov. 7th 2 to 4. I hope you can make it.

There is nothing as important for artists than to see a sea of familiar faces at an art opening. It's not about sales, as much support. I sometimes find it hard to make it to artists' openings, but I always try. I appreciate very much that people make it to mine.

There's also the Holiday Open House, here at my studio/apt., with my daughter, Jeanette, and her niece, Tanya. We will have very affordable gifts, jewelry and other neat things for sale.

This show is Nov. 13 from 11 to 7 and Nov. 14 1 to 6 at $ Patriot Lane Apt. 34, in Georgetown. The directions are on my website: www.fiberarte.com.

Silk Wave

New Show, New Title

My show in November in Marblehead, has undergone a title change.... which very well might be a working title, but one hopes this is the final draft!

Thinking Inside the Box has now become Inside and Outside the Box. This allows more freedom for me to show silk pieces without constraints. My boxes are both 'hand-made' and found, and the artwork runs the gamut from Shrines dedicated to family members and other subjects, to Joseph Cornell inspired wooden boxes.

About my intent to post a new work every day..... well, you can see how well that went! Between health issues (mine and others) and preparing for the show, not to mention Life, I haven't posted anything new in a while. But stand by. I will soon post 7 new pieces, not from the exhibit.... you have to have something to look forward to in Nov..... but old and new work. Maybe even my new jewelry.

It's been quite a while since my last posting and an enormous amount of changes, both good and bad, have occurred since then.

Since this is about my artwork, I will only speak of these. The installation at La Concha Hotel in San Juan went very well and everyone was very pleased. Architectural Digest did an article about the hotel and I was mentioned along with a view of the piece. The reflection of the many neon lights distorted the actual color of the silk, and although it looks very good..... it isn't what the actual colors look like. Oh well, as they say, any publicity is good, even if it's bad.... and this was wonderful.

The entire article can be seen on my website - www.fiberarte.com.

Now I'm working on my next big 'production' which will be a one-woman exhibit at the Marblehead Arts Association in Nov. entitled "Thinking Out of the Box". All the art will be either in a box or have some relation to a box. Fun.

All for now.
